Predict to Prevent: Effective Care of Mothers and Babies at risk of Preterm Birth, Growth Restriction, and Stillbirth

    Birth2maternity.jpg

1 in 133 babies are stillborn or die within seven days of birth (Maternity Services in England (NAO, Nov 2013). The UK has one of the highest neonatal mortality rates in Europe, 75% of these deaths were babies under 2500g. Predictive methods need to be learnt in order to prevent future deaths from occurring.

This study day includes unique, multidisciplinary, subsidised training for all clinical staff with an interest in the Delivery Suite (e.g. midwives, anaesthetists, obstetricians). The day includes:
    • Identifying women at risk of preterm birth
    • Prediction and prevention of prematurity
    • Care of the baby due to be born preterm
    • Identifying pregnancies at risk of SGA
    • Optimal methods for diagnosing the small baby: fundal height measurements, customised growth charts.
    • Management of SGA: implementing surveillance as set out in national guidelines
    • Antenatal identification of babies at risk of stillbirth
    • Strategies to reduce stillbirth in your unit
    • Optimal assessment of fetal wellbeing: fetal movements, growth and Doppler scans, antenatal CTG
